About Piano Program

As a teacher, imagine a scenario where you can assign videos for your students to learn music theory. They can watch these videos at home or during their lesson time. You never have to spend time again guessing what each student needs to learn for their grade level.

Piano Program Music Theory was founded by a passionate piano and music theory teacher, piano pedagogy specialist and entrepreneur: Dr. Kathy Winston.

Dr. Winston holds three degrees in music, including a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano pedagogy, and has taught music at the university level and in her own private studio. She is also the founder and past director of Velocity Music Academy in Cedar Park, a business that she owned from 2010 to 2020. She currently teaches private piano lessons to students in Cedar Park and Austin, Texas and worldwide online over zoom.

The Creation of Piano Program

During her career as a university professor, she realized that many students were not adequately prepared for college music theory. That is when she began developing online music theory courses for grades 1-12, to provide music theory instruction in a clear, concise, and consistent manner.

This program was integrated at her own school, allowing her employees to efficiently teach their 350+ pre-college students in a flipped classroom method.

Seeing the incredible security of music theory knowledge in her own students, she opened up the music theory courses to other students and teachers in 2018. Currently over 100 teachers and studios use her music theory programs in their own studios. It saves them time in their teaching, and gives them an all-in-one platform to ensure that their students are secure in their music theory knowledge.

Entrepreneurship

In 2020, she expanded her business to help teachers become established in their careers, offering entrepreneurship and pedagogy training for teachers. She also offers teaching resources and studio licensed sheet music for for sale in her shop.

Dr. Winston’s knowledge of business ownership and has also led her to offer consultations with music schools and music teachers alike, helping them to streamline their business and studios to create a thriving and successful career.
