Welcome! I’m Dr. Kathy Winston, pianist and educator. I teach private piano lessons in Austin and Cedar Park Texas and online over zoom. I offer both weekly private lessons and a hybrid option alternating live & asynchronous video lessons. I hold a doctorate in piano, and offer lessons to all students wishing to incorporate music into their lives. My work as a RCM adjudicator gives me the expertise to prepare students in the RCM curriculum, but I also work with students who are on different paths of learning. I tailor each lesson to meet the needs of that particular student.
My studio includes a grand piano, digital piano, and laptop and iPad for technology games and music theory instruction.
My goal as a teacher and pedagogue is to create an environment that focuses on:
- Solid music reading and music theory skills.
- Creativity through improvisation and composition.
- Learning both the masters of piano literature and incorporating current music of the day.
We are so grateful to have Dr. Winston as our son’s piano teacher. Her patience and ability to make learning fun engaged him as a kindergartener, and her passion for music and teaching has kept him hooked as a third grader. Watching his proficiency at and love for piano grow under her guidance has been such a joy.

Lessons for Children & Young People
For children and young people: Tuition per semester
Fall & Spring Semesters: September through May
– Fall Semester includes: 14 private lessons, 1 recital, 1 performance class,
– Spring Semester includes: 18 private lessons, 1 recital, 1 performance classes.
All students have the opportunity to enter local festivals and competitions and prepare for RCM examinations. All students learn repertoire, technique, etudes, and study music theory. Optional study of popular music, improvisation, and composition. Choose between weekly live lessons or the hybrid model with alternating live and asynchronous lessons.
Summer Lessons
All private students are encouraged to enroll in summer lessons. Private lessons are booked over the summer during June, July and August on a per-lesson tuition basis.
Lessons for Adults
Learning piano as an adult can be a very rewarding activity! Adult students can book private 1hr lessons or private 45 min lessons as their schedule permits. Most of my adult students take weekly or every other week lessons, and by doing so, you reserve a spot in my schedule. Contact me to set up that option.
NEW: Online Piano Exploration Classes are weekly zoom group classes for adults who do not live in the Austin, TX area. Please email kathy@pianoprogram.com for details.

She is the founder and past owner of Velocity Music Academy and has taught piano and music theory at Trinity University, St. Edward’s, Baylor, and her private studio. Above all, she firmly believes that music instruction enhances all lives.
